Chicago Trip During the Pandemic

Chicago Boat tour during the pandemic

June 19, 2021

Ever since my Seattle trip last month made me feel much more comfortable in traveling during covid times, I have been really looking forward to visiting Chicago. My trip to Chicago during the pandemic marks a new beginning, a new breakthrough, that I am moving forward, traveling, and continuing to explore the wonders of the World.

During this Chicago trip, I try to stay with mostly outdoor activities to be on the safe side. This is one of the precautions that I take when traveling during the pandemic. The Chicago Architecture Boat Tour turns out to be a great idea! There are many companies doing this popular cruise. I use Shoreline Sightseeing and the experience is very positive.

They have two locations – Michigan Avenue Pier or Navy Pier. I am going with Navy Pier so that I can explore two attractions at the same time. The boat cruise is 75 minutes long. It covers all the historical building and landmarks of the city along the river.

The guide is very informative and has a great sense of humor, which makes the tour even more fun. I would never have imagined that I would learn so much about Chicago in such a short period of time.

Chicago’s Riverwalk is one of the most enjoyable places for a leisurely stroll on a beautiful day. And it is indeed a gorgeous day with 70’s temperature and sunny blue sky. I am now sitting on a patio by the river, sipping an ice-cold beer, and enjoying everything Riverwalk has to offer. And most importantly, I am traveling again and I am enjoying every moment of it.

Throughout my Chicago trip during the pandemic, I have seen half-empty boats and piers, and short or no lines everywhere I go. Travel is still not remotely near normal levels. Flights are not full and I have been scrolling through mostly half-empty airports.

I feel that as long as you are fully vaccinated, this is the best time to travel. You can get bargain airfares and hotel prices while avoiding all the crowds at the same time. This trip to Chicago during the pandemic turns out to be very enjoyable, and in a way, liberating!
