Luggage tags for United Airlines’ Premier Elite Silver, Gold, Platinum, and 1K members have just begun arriving in the mail in March. It could take up to a few weeks for the initial batches to be delivered. It appears to me that the arrival dates are quite random, and they are independent of your geographical location or your status. My wife and I are gold and platinum (and live in the same address, of course) but the gold envelop arrived days before the platinum one did. I have silver friends who’ve received theirs before I got mine, and 1K friends who still have not received theirs.

The Package

The long envelop arrives with a cardboard folder stuffed inside. Just like the previous two years, the folder opens up to display attractive pictures of the airlines’ global destinations titled “Explore the World’s Wonders”. As in previous years, the featured destinations are different for each tier, and this year they are:
Silver: Great Wall of China
Gold: Alhambra, Spain
Platinum: Harbor of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
1K: Aurora Borealis, Norway
Two Sizes

This is the first year, as far as I can remember, that everybody from silver to 1K gets the exact same package. Everyone gets two United luggage tags – one is 1.5” x 2.5” and the other one is 2.5” x 3.5”. These are the exact same sizes that UA has been sending out in the past, but this is the first time that we get one of each. That is very nice.
If I must pick on one thing, it’s that the plastic is rather brittle and the thin slot where the plastic loop strap is tied to is not strong enough. I have broken many of them in the past. That’s why I am now using them only on my carryon. I don’t think they can survive the rough handling of checked baggage.
How to Request Yours

This is the third consecutive year since the airline restarted this premier luggage tags program in 2022 (qualifying year, packages sent 2023). But it is not automatic. You have to request it. To order yours, log in to your UA Mileage Plus account and navigate to the Premier Status Tracker. Alternatively, a shortcut is to log in from the link below:
On the page there is a button where you can click on to request yours. Once your order is accepted, you will see a confirmation screen.
I am all for the policy of United sending the luggage tags only if requested as it ends the endless arguments and debates that the airline has been sending them out to people who don’t want or use them, creating lots of wastage which is not environmentally friendly. But completely eliminating them is not a good idea either as there are many loyal UA flyers – like my wife and I – who really appreciate the gesture. Now we have the best of both worlds, especially at a time when the airline is raising the qualifying thresholds for all of its elite tiers.
